Feline Orthodontics
The lower canine is maligned, bumping into the cat's upper gums every time she closes her mouth. Moving this tooth toward the side of the mouth will allow the cat to close her mouth comfortably and the tooth will regain its function.
Crowded Teeth
Occurs when the normal arch configuration of teeth is disrupted. Crowded teeth commonly lead to increased plaque accumulation, early periodontal disease, tooth mobility and tooth loss.
Normal Bite
The upper incisors should just lie in front and touch the lower incisors. The cheek teeth should interdigitate.
Under Bite
Properly termed mandibular mesioclusion occurs when the upper jaw is located forward to the lower jaw. Treatment may involve tooth movement, extraction(s) or crown reduction and restoration, based on physical exam findings creating a functional pain free bite.
Over Bite
Occurs when there is an increased distance between occluding teeth. This is considered an inherited orthodontic defect.
